Bibimbap (pronounced as it is spelled) is one of my absolute favorite things to make/eat. For those unfamiliar, it is a traditional Korean dish that serves as a way to use many banchan (side dishes) in one dish. I went a little more Thai with this one, as I tend to do, but I really sought to build the particular flavor profile fairly traditional. It is fresh, it is salty, it is spicy, it is sweet, it is cooked, it is raw, it is full of umami. Here are the ingredients I used in mine:
Warm jasmine rice
Sautéed mushrooms
Soy and sesame carrots
Fresh cucumber
Sweet pears
Spinach
Bean sprouts
Spicy sambal oelek sauce
So, grab some rice, greens of your choice, colorful veggies, mushrooms or tofu, and a spicy sauce and make one of the most delicious, filling salads you’ll ever experience.
